Social Cloud- Blogger Influence Conference

10/24/2013 09:02:00 pm

On the evening of Monday 21st October 2013, I was invited by a friend of mine, to the latest in the series of CloudNine's, Social Cloud events, a conference on blogger influence.

We wound our way round Piccadilly circus to Grace, a swanky bar tucked away down Great Windmill Street. Upon arrival we were greeted by members of the team and a fab half price cocktails offer!!

After allowing us an hour or so to socialise, we all sat as an audience to a panel, which included the following people;
  • Steve Ward- Host and Owner of CloudNine
  • Krista Madden- Handpicked Media and Blogger
  • Holly Hunt- Blogger- Yummy Mummy's Beauty Blog
  • Carli Palmer- Social Media & Content Manager at House of Fraser
  • Ambarina Hasan- Blogger- Beauty Passionista
The main topic of conversation was blogger influence. A small debate was held over whether or not it should be illegal for bloggers not to mention they have been sent a product for free. It is illegal in the USA!
The topic of sponsored posts was also raised, we were questioned whether we would be happy to write a sponsored post. My personal view on this is, if the product I am being asked to review is relative to my blog I would be happy to.
I have never thought of my blog as a career path, more of a hobby. However there are some bloggers who now advertise and write sponsored posts, this acts as their main income.

I love reviewing products and love reading reviews, I very often purchase a product upon the review of another blogger, I like to think I have the same effect on my readers.

I caught a few minutes with Krista Madden, director of Handpicked Media and Beauty and the Dirt.
Krista gave me some great advice, she told me to expand and that is exactly what I am going to do. So from today, my blog will turn into more of a diary, reviewing places I have eaten, bars I have visited, my weekend away visiting my parents, holidays etc. Of course I will still review products and have the beauty and fashion sections on my blog. but I agree with Krista, I need to Expand and stand out from the rest, have followers that follow me because I am me, not because of the products I review.

So here it goes...Amynities is Expanding!

Thank you Cloud Nine for putting on the event and thank you Krista Madden for your advice!
